The Choice Is Yours - Good
Quality Or Inexpensive Patio Doors
Consider Your Personal Preference When Selecting Patio
Doors
Don't you just love how patio doors
let natural light shine through, not to the mention the
extra space they seem to open up.
This thought came to my mind since my
husband and I are in the process of remodeling our home. We
thought since we have a small deck off of our dining room
area and a raised deck off of our upper level master
bedroom, we would expand the deck off the dining room area
to wrap around the front of our house.
Since we will be using this deck to
grill and eat outside when guests come over, the doors will
be used often so we want to invest in quality glass patio
doors that will be easy to open and close.
The doors also will be facing the
lakeside of our home, which is on the north side, so we need
to make sure that the doors are energy efficient to stop the
cold during the winter months.
Shopping For Patio
Doors
We began shopping around at our local
home improvement store and found that there were several
types of patio doors available. Due to a bad experience we
had in the past, we had already decided that we did not want
sliding patio doors.
In the area we live in, we get a great
deal of snow and ice during the winter months and we found
that many times we could not access the doors because snow
and ice was built up on the tracks that the doors slide on.
Since, we are planning a deck fire area, we will want to be
able to use the patio doors during the winter months as
well
We did find two choices for patio
doors that swing open at our local Home Depot Store.
Eventhough, they were a little more expensive than the
sliding doors, we felt like the expense was worth the higher
quality that we are going to have.
Which Patio Door Should We
Choose?
One style of patio door featured a
swinging screen door. This ran
several hundred dollars more than the one that had a sliding
screen. I felt that having a sliding screen door defeated
the purpose of having a swinging glass door.
But after the sales person explained
that during the winter months we could have a clearer view
by removing the screen and storing it, we decided on the
swinging hinged type patio doors for both the upper and
lower decks.
Ask Questions About Size Of Patio
Door
We brought home the patio doors and
stored them in the garage so that they would be available
for the contractor. My husband called me at work the next
day to report that the doors did not fit the opening that
the contractor had left for the patio doors.
Since the sales clerk didn't mention
that there was more that one size, we didn't even ask about
the size of the doors since we didn't consider this to be an
issue.
Yes, changing the size of the opening
will take extra time, but we hope to have our remodeling
project completed soon. Then we can sit back and look at the
big picture. Oh! What a wonderful view!!!
