Brighten Your Hall Decor
with Decorative Wall Sconces
by Candice Pardue
Wall Sconces to Brighten Your
Hallway
Hallways are often dark and drab, but
that can change with just a few minor decor adjustments. Add
wall sconces to your hall decor to brighten the way and give
your hall a unique look and feel.
Types of Wall Sconces
There are many different colors,
styles and types of wall sconces. The
glass covering for the light of a wall sconce is one
determining factor when searching for the perfect hall decor
solution.
For example, Tiffany-style wall
sconces
add elegance to your walls and provide a soothing dim
light. These usually have colorful stained glass
coverings with various designs you can match with almost any
decor.
For an unusual and exotic decor, add bamboo wall sconces
to your hallway. Bamboo wall sconces have bamboo-like
trim and light coverings. A wall sconce with amber
glass goes wonderfully with pastels or natural colors in a
hallway. For a bright look and feel, sconces with
satin or white glass finishes are great additions.
Once you've determined what type of covering you'll need,
there are also different types of trim and wall mounts for
sconces. Some sconces offer a clean, sharp look with a
brass colored trim and mount. There are also
antique silver styles, wooden trim, and the thick dark
copper look.
The
shape and size should also be considered. Where will you
hang the sconce? How much wall space is
available? Sconces come in different sizes and
shapes. Some have only one light; others have two or
three lights. Some sconces have a plain, simple shape
while others are curvy, fancy or spread horizontally.
There are even sconces that are shaped like hanging lanterns
with the old New England look and feel. Some sconces are
shaped like candle lights
or resemble fancy chandeliers .
Choose a sconce that will fit in size and shape and
coordinate well with your other wall decorations.
Where to Hang a Wall Sconce
Wall sconces can be hung alone as a
single wall piece or they can be coordinated with your other
decor items. They look great with paintings or
portraits, especially in a collage of several different
paintings to add light. Wall sconces also look great
when hung over a decorative hallway table or desk, or next
to a coat rack near an entrance. You can also hang a
sconce near a plant or flower to attract attention to that
area of your hall decor.
Another
way to use sconces is to hang them beside your hallway
entrance doors if enough room is available. It's a
beautiful way to light the entrance without taking away from
your hall decor.
Wall sconces should be matched with your hallway colors,
flooring and other decor items to get the most value.
They are both beautiful and practical.
