When I think about my childhood, bunk beds are the first thing that comes to mind.

Everyone had a bunk bed growing up at one point or another – at least I hope they did. If you did not, I feel sorry for you.

Bunk Beds Make Having Sleepovers Fun

After all, as every kid knows, bunk beds are the best way to have a sleepover. Rather than making your friends go to sleep on the floor in a sleeping bag, you can have him or her doze directly above or below you.

There''s just something special about lying on your bunk bed and staying up half the night while talking with your friends. Then you slowly drift off to sleep after having a good conversation.

My Dad And I Made My Bunk Beds Together

My bunk bed was especially important to me. You see, when I was a kid my dad always talked about doing carpentry projects, but never got around to it.

He simply didn't have the time for woodworking, and I could tell that he really missed doing it.

We had been looking at bunk beds for me for a while when he decided that we should build one together.

It was the first thing that we ever built together. On the surface, it looked like a pretty simple project, but when I asked my dad about it he said it was it would take a lot of hard work to get it done.

I had seen a lot of bunk beds, but when I saw the pilot on the floor, I really did not believe it could ever be turned into one.

We had to cut all the pieces to size, file down grooves and slots for boards to fit into, and do other tasks too numerous to remember.

Bunk Bed Project Was A Big Success

My dad, however, surprised me and when we were through, I was so proud of it that I couldn't get over it.

We had looked at metal, plastic, and wood bunk beds in the store, but nothing looked quite as glamorous to me as the one that me and my dad built by hand.

I had a friend over to show it off, and he loved it almost as much as I did.

Today, that bed is long gone, but I still remember it and the fun my Dad and I had making it.

Should I Buy My Daughter Bunk Beds?

Now I have a daughter and her birthday is coming up soon.

Guess What!! I am seriously thinking about getting her some bunk beds. Though you are probably thinking that these are usually for boys, but I have seen some great bunk beds for a little girl's room. She may a little scared of them at first, I know I was.

But, after she sleeps on them awhile and finds out how much fun they are, I know she will love them.

She is very outgoing and already has a lot of friends,that I know will be coming over.

After all, sleepovers are an important part of childhood, and bunk beds are every bit as important as forts made out of pillows and sheets. Right!!

Various Uses For Bunk Beds

So the bunk beds will solve the problem of having a lot of sleepovers.

When she's not having friends over, she can use the other bunk for her collection of stuffed animals that she has to have by her side constantly.

I could even get her bunk beds with extra storage. Now that would make both me and her happy!!

Of course, I wouldn't make her keep the bunk beds forever.And I know once she gets a little older, she'll ask for a canopy bed

I can definitely see her outgrowing bunk beds when she gets to be about twelve or so, but that would mean she could get at least five years of use out of them, if not more.

If we are blessed with more kids, the bunk beds could then be passed down to the next. The more I think about it, the more I think that the bunk beds are a splendid idea.

Things To Consider When Buying Bunk Beds

The only problem might be getting them inside, so I am going to look for some bunk bed plans where I can assemble them easily in my home.

I'm also going to shop around for some affordable, but not so cheap bunk beds that I fear for her safety.
