Bedside Table

Table for bedroom

The last thing you need when you retire for the night is an annoyance. Something as simple as turning out the light can be one if it is not right beside your bed. With a bedside table the light, among other items needed for the night, are at your fingertips. Make your bedroom more comfortable and convenient.

Is Your Bedroom Convenient? Do Yourself a Favor and Put in a Bedside Table

A Story about Night Stands

Each night when you go to bed it is a mere convenience to have a place to put your water, or your wake up radio. A bedside table (sometimes called a night stand) is ideal for this purpose, plus it adds some character to your boudoir decor.

Do You Go Right to Sleep or Do You have Night Time Rituals?

Many times people read just before going to bed and instead of getting up to place their book on a shelf or tossing it on the floor, they place it conveniently on the bedside table. It is right next to the bed so you can flip off the light as well as put your book down when you are ready to fall asleep.

If you can’t sleep it is nice to have a little night table right next to the bed so you do not have to get up to read or turn on the light.

For the Couch Potato (or Bed Potato)

Watching television in bed has become commonplace for many people and we all know how easy it is to lose the remote control. If you put it on your bedside table you’ll never again have to send out a search party to find it.

For some items it is vital to have a bedside table such as eye glasses and medicine. Some styles also have drawers in them as well to hold all of these things and more.

The Phone on the Bedside Table - Just in Case ...

A phone and an alarm clock should really be placed near the bed. Putting your alarm clock on the bedside table will ensure you that when it goes off you will hear it and you won’t have to go far to turn it off to go back to sleep.

A telephone is a must nowadays as it can wake you up if you are sleeping and a call comes or if you just want to relax and talk on the phone while lying down.

For senior citizens who live alone having the phone close to them on the bedside table, is vital in case they have a medical emergency during the night. This could turn out to be a lifesaver!!

Bedside Table Styles

The style that you choose for this small piece of furniture is normally based on the décor of the bedroom. You can buy a bedside table for each side of the bed as many are sold in pairs.

A bedside table can also be purchased to match the bed. It can be made of the same wood that the other furniture and bed is made up making the furniture match and look nice as many bedroom sets are sold with matching pieces.

Choosing Your Night Stand

I didn’t give it much thought for the longest time, but you do have to think about your choice when you buy a bedside table. These, at least in my home, are a great place for an alarm clock, and they also hold the little things you need each day but don’t really have a place for.

That might be extra change, earrings, or your watch. I cleaned homes for a living a long time ago while going through college, and to see a home without these tables was a rare sight indeed. Most people like to have them.

What Type of Bed do You Own?

Those with large beds often don’t have to think about anything by style when they buy a bedside table, but those with small and shorter beds have to think about a few things. I once had a glass bedside table, and I almost cut my head open on it one night.

I am not sound sleeper, and I roll around a lot. I woke up after banging my head on it, and realized had I moved just an inch lower, the corner could have cut my head. I got rid of it that day and went shopping for a new set for my home.

Low Lying Beds and Tables

If you have a bed that is not far from the floor, you have to get a bedside table that is completely level with the side of your bed, or one that is significantly taller so that you don’t cut your head like I almost did.

You should also look for something that has rounded corners in the event that you do bump your head or even your arm or leg on the bedside table. That would be a nasty shock in the middle of the night for sure.

Shopping for Bedside Tables

For the most part, you can find a wide variety if bedside tables anywhere you can buy furniture. If you are buying a bedroom suite, but you aren’t sure about the tables that come with it, ask for a substitution.

Many stores will do this for you if something that matches can be found. You can also look online to find the right bedside table type to suit your home decor. Take note that you'll most likely have to assemble these nightstands, but that is a small price to pay for getting the right bedroom furniture so you can sleep peacefully every night.

Final Thought about Boudoir Decor

No matter if you buy nightstands for style or convenience, a table near your bed will give you an enjoyable night. As stated above, you can choose to purchase them at a local furniture store or do a search on the Internet for different types and bargains.

These pieces of bedroom furniture will certainly help to hold all of your nighttime accessories so you will never again be wandering around in the dark. So, sleep well tonight and remember to turn off the lamp resting on your new bedside table !!
