What Should I Expect When Remodeling an Old Bathroom?
I'm sure you've heard the saying "two heads are better than one." I found out this is definitely true when it comes to remodeling a bathroom.
A friend of mind just recently purchased an older home and is now in the process of updating the home a little bit at a time. Since I had done a few diy projects myself, she asked me for some bathroom remodeling ideas.
So, together we came up with a great and inexpensive way to redo her old bathroom. First we determined the style in which she wanted to remodel the entire home. Right off the bat, we knew it would difficult to get a newer modern feel out the home since it was a split-level built in the 1970's.
Since my friend loved vintage everything.we decided to give her bathroom a vintage look. Once the style was determined, we then assessed what needed to go and what needed to stay.
The toilet, which was a sad broken down unit, definitely had to go, so we simply replaced it with a basic toilet rather than a more expensive fixture since she had a small budget. The new standard toilet was a perfect choice and worked just fine.
The bathtub and the faucet fixture on the sink both worked just fine, so they got to stay. A simple cleaning job and they fit right in with the vintage style.
We then checked out the local home improvement stores for other bathroom remodeling ideas in paint colors and tile flooring, light fixtures, etc.
The counter top was a faux black marble Formica and since it blended well, we decided to keep it. By repainting and tiquing the vanity and replacing the old knobs with vintage, as well as replace the light fixture, we were able to pull the sink area together for very little expense.
This left a good deal of the budget available for flooring which was definitely in need of a change.Once the vintage tile had been chosen and installed, we had paint and decorator pieces left.
Since the cost of the other changes had been small, we were able to go with some very nice vintage style towel racks, matching vanity accessories and a fabric shower curtain. She even had enough money left over to purchase some new towels.
So you see, coming up with some really great bathroom remodeling ideas doesn't have to cost a large amount of money, as demonstarted above. It just takes some thought and imagination and a little help from your local home improvement store and two heads instead of one.
